Summer Family Photography in Cornwall

If you've been meaning to book a family photoshoot, maybe this is your sign.

Waiting for the bad haircut to grow out, the extra weight to fall off, or the awkward phase to pass can make you miss the chance to capture what was beautiful all along.

Those imperfect little details are what make this chapter yours, and might someday be the most endearing memories.

I don't think summer is the reason to book your family photos. But if you've been waiting for the ‘right’ time, maybe that isn’t when everything is perfect. Maybe it's right now.

Family is where we begin, and belong.

Every family has its own way of loving each other. That's the story I'm interested in telling, by seeing the small moments, tiny details, and at the same time sensing the bigger picture: knowing that one day this will all look different.

Children change so much every year. A session together in the summer light is a wonderful way to remember not just how they look, but how this season feels.

Michelle made us feel completely at ease, and the photographs are amazing. We’ll definitely be asking her to capture our family again.

I’m your experienced guide

The best family photos don't happen by accident. Nor do they happen by telling everyone to stand perfectly still and smile at the camera.

Throughout your session, I’ll be creating opportunities for genuine moments of closeness and connection while your family's personality shines through. I have 12 years experience working with all ages and stages.

I adapt to your family’s pace and energy, and there’s always plenty of laughter, movement and playful moments, all woven naturally into time spent together.

The result is a collection of photographs that feel honest, connected and unmistakably yours.

Embracing summer

Summer is a lovely time for outdoor family photography sessions in Cornwall, when families have extra time together and days can slow down.

Enjoy an early morning or evening with me, savouring the moments and being present together.

For me, the location is not the most important part of the session.

The real story is always your family.

We'll choose a spot that works for your family - somewhere easy to access and not too crowded. It may mean going off the beaten track, or venturing out early before everyone else. It’s part of the adventure and experience, and worth the change in routine.

Because this is Cornwall, we'll always keep an eye on the weather. If the forecast isn't on our side, we'll simply rearrange for another day.

These summer family sessions are a seasonal way to enjoy family photography during Cornwall's busier holiday months.

Every family is different, and you can choose the package that feels right for you after you've seen your photos (online/zoom viewing).

Many families also choose to turn their favourite photographs into framed wall art or handcrafted albums, so they can enjoy their images every day rather than keeping it on a screen.

*Every family session is planned individually, so if anything about your booking would involve an additional cost, I'll always let you know before you confirm.

Michelle captured our family beautifully and gave us keepsakes we’ll treasure forever. I’m blown away by the photographs and can’t stop looking at them!

FAQ

How long are family photography sessions?

An outdoor family photography session is usually 1 hour, which is usually plenty of time.

What time of day do you shoot outdoors?

Outdoor sessions are always held within an hour or two of sunrise or sunset. Early morning is preferable in the peak summer holiday periods.

What if it rains?

If rain is forecast at our session time, we’ll reschedule to the nearest available date. Cornwall can be unpredictable so this is sometimes a last minute call.

Do you charge for travel?

The first 10 miles from me are free. I’m based in Grampound and there are many lovely locations within that radius including beach, woods and countryside spots. If your preferred location is further afield there is an additional travel charge added, which is discussed before booking.

Any extra costs like entry fees, parking etc are also added to the session price.

Is there an additional charge for extended family bookings?

Yes, I charge an additional fee for extended family sessions as these tend to be several family sessions rolled into one. This will be discussed before you book.

Michelle made us all feel completely at ease and has a wonderful talent for capturing both natural moments and beautiful portraits.

This summer only happens once.

Whatever this season looks like for your family, I'd love to help you remember it.

A true story

There are so many tales of photoshoots that almost didn’t happen. I think it’s common to not feel a sense of urgency as life melts from one stage to the next without fanfare. We all know what it’s like to look back and realise things have changed, and the moments we didn’t realise were special have gone.

Without fail, those who almost didn’t book the session say they’re so glad they did it afterwards. It makes me realise how many probably don’t, and regret it.

We approached Curious Creatures Photography after bringing home our daughter and wanted to celebrate the family we’d built through adoption.

Michelle was so welcoming, encouraging and understanding. She helped me agonise over outfit choices and understood the significance of these photographs in marking our journey to becoming a family.

Our photos are just stunning. They capture our family perfectly, and the memories she’s given us are priceless.
