Soft, natural light photography that captures the pure beauty of newborn babies. A photoshoot at Curious Creatures Photography in Grampound, near Truro is an experience that centres around the moments that unfold, rather than poses. Parents are gently guided through the process, with plenty of preparation, so that the sessions feel relaxed and comfortable.
“We had our newborn photoshoot by Michelle and it was such a lovely and warm experience.
Michelle is very professional and caring with our little boy.
Our time in Michelles home studio was amazing, we sat back and watched Michelle work her magic in the most calming environment. The options for different props, fabrics, and backdrops where endless and Michelle knew exactly what worked!
We had the best time and have made the memories to cherish.”
If you want to savour the experience of having a newborn - how this time feels rather than some perfectly posed pictures - I am here to notice and capture the littlest details and big emotions for you.
With 12 years experience, I specialise in the art of capturing a lot with a little. Keeping things as simple as possible, connection is the most important thing to me and you’ll experience a warm & nurturing space where moments can unfold naturally - captured expertly to feel completely relaxed and immersed in presence.
I will photograph your precious little one & family with softness and care, capturing the quiet wonder, little details and deep emotions of this fleeting time.
Newborn photoshoots take place in my natural-light home studio in Grampound, near Truro, or in the comfort of your own home in Cornwall or Devon.
Sessions capturing the newborn stage are done within the first few weeks after birth - ideally between day 6-10. It’s advised to book well before baby arrives for a guaranteed slot in my calendar. We’ll schedule it in for around 10 days from your due date. This can then be moved if baby arrives earlier or later.
There is only now. And it doesn’t need to look a certain way. My approach to newborn photography is gentle, baby-led, and rooted in presence. Whether you’re in my calm home studio in Grampound or snuggled up at home, these sessions are about noticing what’s real - the quiet, in-between moments that matter most.
Life with a new baby isn’t staged or polished, and your photos shouldn’t be either. I’m here to capture it as it unfolds - with softness, care, and intention.
“Our advice if you’re deciding on a photographer... LOOK NO FURTHER! Michelle is a truly special photographer who is able to adapt her craft to get excellent photos no matter the subject. We had a maternity shoot followed by a newborn shoot and both sets of photos are an extremely special snapshot in time that will be treasured forever. You won’t regret it.”

Newborn photos are ideally taken within the first two weeks from birth - I try to aim for between day 6-10.
With me, your newborn baby is in very safe hands. Natural, lifestyle newborn photography does not position babies in any unnatural ways, and I am trained and experienced to be always aware of your newborns’ temperature and comfort during a session.
3 weeks is not too late for photos, but I would expect your baby to be more alert and awake - which is lovely too! The older a baby gets, the more those ‘newborn’ features fade (as well as the ability to fold up like a pretzel!), but photos are still gorgeous at any age.
Yes absolutely. I include detailed notes on how to prepare your little one for the session, and this is something that would be discussed during your pre-session consultation to ensure you know what to expect.
Newborn sessions last around 1.5 - 2 hours. There is no time limit, and this includes plenty of time for cuddling, feeding and settling your baby. Because of my style and experienced approach, I can get a lot in this time frame and it’s not too wearying then for parents and other children present.
There is a £65 session fee which covers all the preparation for your session and the time of the photoshoot. Images are purchased separately and digital bundles and print products start from £249. All-inclusive packages start from £64.80 per month.
Approximately 2 weeks after your session we’ll meet back at the studio where you’ll see your photos for the first time and be able to choose the ones you’d like, and your wall art etc.
“We had the most flawless experience at our newborn shoot. From start to finish we were made to feel relaxed and at ease. Our baby was relaxed and in brilliant hands. Our final pictures are faultless and brought us to tears. Couldn’t recommend Michelle more!”
When planning your newborn photoshoot, it’s the little details that make all the difference to your experience and resulting images. The fundamental principle of simplicity means that each element has to be carefully thought through.
Before your session, you’ll receive a prep guide and we’ll discuss the details via a video or phone pre-session consultation.
"Simplicity is a choice, a discrimination, a crystallization. Its object is purity.”
- Le Corbusier
Newborn photoshoots are slow-paced, baby-led, and intuitive, allowing space for feeds, cuddles, and whatever your little one needs to feel comfortable and safe. During your session I hope you’ll get to sit back and relax, enjoying seeing your baby in safe hands, looking content and beautiful. If baby is unsettled then it may be more a cuddle session - I include parents a lot in sessions, even if it’s just your hands with the focus on baby.
After your newborn photoshoot we will set a date for your viewing and ordering appointment (approximately 2 weeks later). This is when you can return to the studio and see the images from your session, beautifully edited and curated into a gallery of memories. I will guide you through the options, helping you to make the best decisions on what to buy to suit your taste and budget.
Here’s a look at some of my recent newborn photography taken in my home studio in Grampound, Cornwall.
“We had a newborn shoot with Michelle and found the whole experience very relaxed and professional. My 10 day old arrived unsettled and demanding to be fed, which didn’t phase Michelle at all - I had plenty of unrushed time to feed my daughter while she amused my son! She managed to get some great family shots as well as the newborn images, despite my 4 year old (and my husband!) being less than keen on having their photo taken usually.
The finished photos were amazing (I was meant to select a small digital bundle but ended up getting the package with them all included as I was unable to choose!) I would definitely recommend!”
“Aw we absolutely love them. Thank you ever so much for being so patient on the day and taking the time to get the perfect shots. It was so appreciated.”
