Family photo session at Trelissick, Cornwall
Sweet family shoot at Trelissick Gardens
Michelle and her family were visiting from Ireland for a 2 week holiday at the beginning of their summer holidays in June. She’d booked an AirBnB in Truro - they had never visited Cornwall and it was a central place to base themselves.
She had contacted me to book a family photoshoot a while back but it was confirmed fairly last minute (she admitted after the session she was in two minds about whether to do it, but decided to go for it. And she was so happy she did).
The session was booked for a morning at Trelissick Gardens - not the main NT gardens but the surrounding area, which I love for it’s open space and as an alternative to the beach which isn’t for everyone. With the shade of the trees we can get away with a later start time too, which in summer can be a sticking point for sessions.
They’d arrived in Cornwall at the same time as the intense heatwaves - where it was climbing to over 30 degrees by 10am. It was hot and sweaty, but not too bad in the shade, and I brought the time forward to 8.30am so we beat the main heat of the day.
They were a really sweet family, and we had a lovely hour or so enjoying the setting. I loved the moment when Michelle lost her balance and fell onto her back, and the kids climbed on top of her for some of my favourite shots of the day.
The sweet relationships they all had with each other made it a really heartwarming and memorable morning.
When I met up with Michelle over Zoom a couple of weeks later to show her the photos, she was really emotional going through them, and was so happy she’d booked the session.
If you’re on the fence about whether your family would handle being in a photoshoot, and whether it’s worth doing, the answer is ABSOLUTELY! I almost guarantee that you’ll be blown away by how beautiful you all are, and how many incredible little moments live within your day to day exchanges. That is what I love to capture - so get in touch if it is something you’re curious about.
