I was thrilled to be contacted by Clare to say she'd had a baby and wanted to book a newborn session. Having just had a baby myself it was lovely to hear her news. I'd photographed her with hubby Paul and their little boy Theo about a year ago, and again with Theo's grandparents a few months after that. They were all lovely - we had beach sessions and they are still among my favourite shoots to date. We decided to do the session at their home in Porthtowan. It was unbelievably stormy (you know, those fronts that come in and dominate the news, wreck the roads, wreak havock!) so the drive across to the North coast was interesting, but I made it. I nearly lost my car door when I opened it... but I made it!
They have a beautiful home, which they rebuilt themselves to their own design. We stuck to the lounge which had great light. Theo was asleep when I arrived, so I had a chance to catch up with Clare and Paul while she fed baby Gabe and tried to settle him. When Theo woke up we got going, with a brief tantrum break, bless him. It's such an adjustment bringing a new baby into the fold, and being in the thick of it myself I could really feel for all of them. But tears were soon dried off and we managed to get Gabe onto the floor for a few gorgeous photos. I love these type of lifestyle sessions, there is no predicting what shots I'll be able to get (true of all sessions, really), and it's really about capturing details and real life for the type of momento images that hopefully as years go by become more precious.
Lifestyle sessions are great for any age, as an alternative to outdoors or the studio. Please get in touch if you're interested in finding out more.
Here are a few from our session.
