Lexi's baby photo session took place at the bridge in Ruan Lanihorne - one of my favourite locations on the Roseland. It's easy to access, not too far out for people to travel and really pretty. It's set in a grassy flood plane, with a stream and old stone bridge. I love how open and bright it is, with the forest in the background. It was an overcast morning and I was kind of hoping for some rays of golden light but cloudy is good. Lexi was the perfect model! Sitting pretty at 10 months old and very chilled and happy to play with the grass and give me lots of gorgeous smiles. We had fun playing and I just love how the images turned out.
For outdoor shoots we always play it by ear and confirm the day before once we've seen the latest forecast. I'll generally go ahead unless it's going to be really raining, which happens rarely. I photograph outdoors all year round - I love the different mood that comes with each season, and there are plenty of beautiful locations within a 5 mile radius from me. Families with children over age 1 are generally held outside as my studio space is quite small and I prefer natural family photos with movement and interaction rather than being limited to just careful poses.
